Monkey in a Cage

pushing a shopping cart made of bones
I watched his eyes implode
we were young then and we didn’t know what was coming
but we didn’t see not seeing nothing
dragging a cross through an oil field
I thought of choking fog
it just rolled in and ate everything we saw
then he never did see nothing but fog
so tell me, what is it like to have life dry up under your feet?
and if you’re born without hands how can you ever beg for scraps?
dragging a thirty case of limbs down fell street
we watched the world turn cold
we were hungry then but all there was to eat
were the eyes of the tired and crying
stumbling along through a shanty town
I asked where life had gone
you didn’t look at me cuz by then you couldn’t see
but you smiled and you said it’s all around us
so tell me, what is it like to have life dry up under your feet?
and if you’re born without hands how can you ever beg for scraps?
Britches had his eyes sewn shut
Britches had his eyes sewn shut
they sewed that monkey’s eyelids shut
a baby in a cage
and though we can’t see ourselves in this river
because it’s dried up
I can see my reflection in the blankness
of your eyes
they taped a screeching to his head
they taped a screeching to his head
they claimed that they were scientists
a baby in a cage
and though you can’t see at all now
I can feel you climb onto
the bike that you rode in on
that taught you how to fly
and though we can’t we can’t see ourselves
in this river because it’s dried up
I can see my reflection in your smile
so tell me, what is it like to have life dry up under your feet?

we're so fucking small there's no space for us all
please get me out of here
we're so fucking small there's no space I'm gonna drown
and I can't swim off of this rock without a little help
and the borders we've created are impossible to cross
look around, what have we done?
We can't just walk away no we can't get out alone
so will you hold my hand and pull me through to the other side?
and on the other side there's a world without borders
without boundaries, and people who police them
and on the other side there's a world without countries
and we don't shoot missiles over fucking fabric
and in this world there are no peace treaties
there's always peace and there's not freedom
cuz we're all free
we're all fucking crazy but we're not crazy at all
we're just trying to fit inside their box
and I can't follow recipes when I make anything
so why am I trying to please anyone but me?
so maybe you should lock me up and I'll tell you the key
to crossing over that line
and then they'll shut you up and then we'll pick the locks
like the dumpster behind the veggie chop that belongs to otter box
and on the other side there's a world without borders
without boundaries, and ourselves who police them
and on the other side there's a world without faggots
cuz we're all faggots, at least a little bit
but in this world we're everything that surrounds us
so we can't let it keep us in boxes
cuz we're all free
and when the government shuts down this fall
I'll go down to Mexico
and while the men in suits collect their paychecks
there will be distance, thousands of miles between us
but what do people and paychecks have in common?
nothing really, except we let them
let's get out of here
and on the other side there's a world without borders
without boundaries, cuz we won't make them
and I won't lie and say that it'll be perfect
there will still be crying, still be hurting
but on the other side there's a world without standard
and I think you're beautiful, not like the magazines
and in this world I'll learn to love you better
cuz freedom won't be just a trite word

The Darkness Inside Us

there are factories that turn sadness into gasoline
there are factories that turn sadness into coal
there are factories down by the river
no one works there
just steel and fractured souls
there are cities that turn people into darkness
there are cities that turn people into parts
just bones and muscles and some sinews
no one even lives here
just cars and wal mart
they manufacture everything
people are just parts
but they are a part of us
so its not just them vs. us
there are places that turn hunger into dollar bills
there are places that turn hunger into walls
and now we cant go in any direction
we’re surrounded
but those walls can have holes
there are places that turn bleeding into alcohol
then prescribe it to close up the wounds
and they say that if we listen it gets better
but I cut my ears off
and I filled them with gauze
they manufacture everything
even our crumbling health
and do all they can to keep us ill
and tell us we’re well
there’s this nebulous notion of the powerful
shadowy men who took over the world
who use government technology to control our thoughts
but if that’s true why don’t we fucking kill them?
well maybe its just not that simple
and there's no people who are in charge at all
just a headless body politic that keeps marching toward the edge
and its whispering lies from out lips
to our ears
there’s people that leave oil spills
wherever they go
and they try to turn us into goods
to promote their will
lets refabricate everything
we’ll make forges of our souls
burn the notions of good and bad
undo the oil spills
there's a powerful force that controls us
that manifests in all our hidden scars
but if we acknowledge that it’s in there
we can heal them
and be uncontrollable

we were covered in semen, ignored gravity and learned how to fly
we were covered in semen, ignored gravity and learned how to fly
on a bed made of pillows, with blankets made out of air
we were covered in semen, ignored gravity and learned how to fly
we were covered in juices, dove down and learned how to smile
we were covered in juices, dove down and learned how to smile
we were covered in sweat, floating in an ocean of gravity
we were covered in juices, dove down and learned how to smile
we made love in the dirt and our hands left prints in the clay
we were covered in dirt but the wind blew all that shit away
and now we are floating in swimming pools made out laughter
trembling with pleasure, our screams turned us both into sparrows
and we cover ourselves in pleasure
we cover ourselves in pleasure so we don't have to remember the motor oil in our hearts
and we're sleeping in a treehouse with blankets made of hot springs
and all the ugly facts, aren’t true anymore
surrounded in signals we got lost in an ocean of stories
they were telling us nothing so we spun tails and hung from a tree
with the ocean above us we knew where we needed to be
we tuned out the signals and floated away with our bodies
our feet they were hurtin from dancin on each other’s graves
the stones were all floating, we moved, we were on the same wave
and now we are swimming in an ocean made out of honey
we felt good together, we ate it off each other’s bodies
we made love in the sky and we smiled as it rained on our faces
it soaked thru our skin and we blissfully made love again
all the while there were robots flying and destroying people
but someday that shit won't exist cuz we'll all have forgotten
and we cover ourselves in pleasure
we cover ourselves in pleasure so we don't have to remember the plastic knives in our heart
and we're sleeping in a meadow in a sea of singing daisies
and all the ugly facts aren’t true anymore
and all the ugly facts don’t exist anymore
and all the ugly facts we don’t remember anymore
